Slight Miscalculation

...I have know idea how people can be so comfortable using a pad on the laptop.

I'm with ya[emoji1]... I can't use those darn touch pads. Been using a mouse SO long, it's like an extension of my hand. I try to use my controller knobs for everything when playing music (with Traktor), but it's still faster for me to search for tracks using a mouse.[emoji4]

Here's where I miscalculated... the Denon mixer is 6 1/2" deep, and the inputs/outputs are on the BOTTOM (instead of on the back side like the old mixer). It won't fit! CRAP!

Had the same problem when I put together my new rack. The Stanton mixer had the inputs in the back, so I could not put another piece of gear right next to it. Fortunately, I have a 1-space panel that I mounted a mic stand on.

I can't for the life of me figure out why manufacturers build rack-mountable components, and then put switches and knobs on the back!!! The power switch on the Denon mixer is on the bottom, so it would be buried in the rack and inaccessible.

Had that issue as well. Bought a mixer from Rick, and it has the power switch and the mono/stereo switch on the back. I used to go back and forth when the switch was on top (of my old mixer)....now I put it on MONO and left it at that!

I've decided to go ahead and mount the Denon mixer in my large rack and just leave the power switch on. The Phantom Power switch is on the back too, but I don't think I'll need it for that system. If I ever do, I have a rack vent that opens like a door on the back of the rack, so I CAN get to the switches pretty easily with that rack. If I had tried to mount it in the top of my small rack, the switches would face the bottom of the rack and would be virtually impossible to get to. How difficult would it have been to put two little round power buttons on the front/top of the mixer?[emoji848]

The 2011 models were... The model I have (2015) you can't even remove the stand without completely disassembling the case. The VESA brackets you can get clamp onto the stand.

I knew about this issue before I bought the iMac, but if you recall that thread, I was upgrading from a laptop that was only 6 years old. Buying another 6 year old computer (just for the VESA mount) didn't make sense.[emoji4]

Only thing about using the iMac (for a DJ computer) is that I've kinda gotten used to having it in my office. There's stuff it does better than my Windows computers and VM's.[emoji4]

I swear these companies don't actually TALK to the people they design products for.
I just leave my power button on, too. I have a Furman that I turn off and on.

Power goes off when it's unplugged anyway. I had a Denon X500 too. The Denon HC4500 is worse .. the power switch is on the side under the rack ear.

That's cool... but that won't work with mine. This is what you have to do with the model I have...

If they brought back the VESA capability, that's GREAT... just too late for me. I'm not buying a new one for a while.

I searched everywhere for a better solution because the bracket is really not attractive. I even watched video's showing how to open the case and remove the motherboard to remove the stand. Because of the way the display is built in, taking an iMac apart is WAY more difficult than other computers... more stuff you can break unless you know the tricks. No thanks... I can live with the ugly bracket.[emoji1]

I know I am little late, but I hate using the laptop pad, Freaking HATE it, I just went back to a wired mouse, got tired of how fast the wireless went through batteries, and the scrolling was no longer smooth, I go through wireless mouses for some reason.

My MC6000 is here in town... tracking does not say it's out for delivery, though. I was hoping it would be here today. Perhaps it will come today, but it at least looks promising for tomorrow.[emoji4] Considering it wasn't shipped until Wednesday, that's not bad.[emoji4]
In the meantime, I built a new PC from the parts from my old DJ computer and a new In Win computer case.[emoji1] I know... it's total craziness.[emoji1]

Edit: The rack mount kit for the MC6000 came. Now I can mount a virtual controller.[emoji1]... I could use Virtual DJ.[emoji1]

WOAH!!! That was crazy![emoji1] I was sittin' in front of the TV eating lunch, and checked the tracking details on my controller, and it said "Out for Delivery", so I walked over and opened the front door so I could see through the storm door when it was delivered. Low and behold, I opened the front door and the FedEX delivery person was setting the box down on my front step![emoji1] WEIRD![emoji1]

Another pleasant surprise... While not part of the description when I was bidding on this Denon MC6000 MK2, inside the box was a FULL version of Serato DJ. I don't use Serato, but now I could (if I ever wanted to) without having to buy a copy. The layout (of the controller) looks pretty straight forward. Not as sturdy as my American Audio VMS 4.1, but WAY better than my Pioneer DDJ-T1.

The other thing is... this controller is CLEAN. There are no scuffs or scratches at all; just a couple of tiny dings in the brushed aluminum jog wheels... barely noticeable. The power cord and USB cord were kinda wadded up in some bubble wrap, so you can tell it's not new... also no manual. I'll have to see if I can find one online. All the knobs and sliders are in tact and seem to work. I'll know more when I have it all hooked up.[emoji4] So far, though, so good![emoji1] Unfortunately, I have to go do the grocery shopping. I guess I'll play with it more later.[emoji4]

...The other is in the UK with no reserve and ends in 5 days. It comes with a pretty nice hard case, so it's a little difficult to estimate what it will sell for eventually, because the case probably cost in the neighborhood of $300 when new. Bids are at $302 already. I'd guess it's gonna go for over $500. It will be interesting to see...
Surprise, surprise! You never know about these eBay auctions. The Denon MC6000 MK2 in the UK ended up selling for $401 with $50 for shipping. Pretty good deal considering it came with a nice hard case. A better deal than mine, but mine is already here, so I'm happy.[emoji4]

You get the Activation Key with it? It begins with SDJ, with the usual long string following.

Yes... I got the activation key
Excellent, you got good deal. My only suggestion is, you might want to install & activate Serato now (even though you're not sure if you want to use it) while you can still communicate with the seller. Serato DJ allows activation to only two computers at a time per key. If he has not de-activated his computers on his end (assuming he used it), you won't be able to activate it on yours (without going through a lot of P.I.A. hoops with Serato).

I'm now rethinking my WHOLE small system strategy.[emoji1] I LOVE the new controller, but now I'm rethinking the other components in the small rack.[emoji4]

Instead of using the 1U computer or my iMac, I think I'm gonna get a Dell All-in-one PC, to replace my 22 inch monitor and rackmount computer. This frees up a 1U space I'll use to insert a 1U wireless mic system. I think I'll take the GTD system out of my large system to use in my small system rack. Then I'll buy a new wireless microphone system for my large rack.[emoji4]
The 1U computer I just rebuilt is still a really nice computer, so I'll use it to replace the 2U computer in my large rack, which I use for video and lights. The new computer has a much more powerful processor and more RAM.[emoji4]

Then I'll take the 2U computer, remove all the guts, and build a new computer in the case. That ought to keep me busy for a couple of days.[emoji4]

I've been giving my small rack modifications some thought as well. In order to mount my Denon MC6000 MK2 in it, I need to remove a section of the plastic in the front to provide access to the knobs, switches, and headphone jack on the front edge. The plastic section that needs to be removed, though, is hollow, and is only connected on the top edge, exactly where I need to remove it. I think I can get a piece of wood in that hollow area, fill it, sand it and paint it, and it should look like it was made to be that way. I guess we'll see.[emoji4] If I screw it up, not a big deal.[emoji4]

Got an All-In-One PC to use with my small system. I bought a "lightly used" Dell Optiex 7440. Has a quad core i5, but only 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD. I'll likely add 4GB of RAM for $30, but not sure what I'm gonna do about the hard drive. I like the SSD, but it's too small for a DJ computer. The computer only has one SATA port for a disk drive, so I either replace the SSD or I use an external drive. It has some USB 3 ports, which make an external drive a reasonable option, but I have a spare 1TB drive I could install inside. I really prefer an internal hard drive. Comes with a new install of Windows 10... I'll likely install Windows 7. Now get this... I only paid $275 for the computer. New, this computer was around $1000. Whether or not I got a good deal depends on the condition of the computer. I hope it's as good as the pics and the description convey, but It's on its way, so we'll soon see. In the meantime I'll get the rack case modified.[emoji4]

Not believing this... I got my new computer 1 week earlier than it was supposed to be delivered. I had to leave the house early today, so while I was eating breakfast at my favorite eatery, I checked the tracking info and it said "out for delivery". CRAP!!!. The night before it was still in Texas and the estimated delivery was June 29. So then I'm hoping it gets delivered late in the day, because I knew I was not going to be home until 5:00pm or so. I was conducting the first round interviews for the IT Director position at the state agency from which I retired, so I was obligated for the day.[emoji4]

Then, around 3:00, just before the final interview, I checked the tracking info again and it said "delivered, left on porch". CRAP again.[emoji1] People are stealin' packages off people's porches all the time. I was worried it wouldn't be there when I got home. Then, wouldn't ya know it, an accident on the freeway, turning it into a parking lot. Finally got home and fortunately, my new computer was there... in the original Dell box. The thieves missed their opportunity. Not only was this thing packed in all the original packaging, it looks like it had never been taken out. This thing looks like a brand new computer. I'm getting ready to check it out, but I'm not believing the condition of this thing. Next post, I'll let you know how it performs and maybe post a few pics.[emoji4]

Not complaining about the early delivery, but I didn't even get a chance to modify the rack case to which I plan to attach it. I thought I had another week.[emoji4]
